According to Karibo Wilson, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara does not require the backing of both his predecessor and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
Wilson made this statement on Monday, a few hours after the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly switched their allegiance from the PDP to the APC.
Wilson questioned the reasons for the Assembly members’ defection during a segment on Channels Television’s LunchTime Politics, claiming that any attempt to remove Fubara from office would be against the interests of the people.
Wilson, a former APC mainstay and the unsuccessful candidate for the Ahoada West House of Assembly seat, added that his decision to move to the PDP was motivated by the interests of the general public.
The PDP leader expressed his confidence that the state’s people support the governor greatly, noting that traditional leaders, young people, and other groups of the public support the governor widely.
He said: “Rivers people are in support of Fubara—the elders, the traditional rulers, senior political and opinion leaders, the youths, women—they are in support.”
