The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for the party’s National Convention, slated to hold in Abuja.

The decision followed deliberations at the PDP’s 105th NEC meeting held on Monday in Abuja, where party leaders reviewed internal affairs, the prevailing political climate, recent court rulings, and preparations for upcoming party processes.

In a statement jointly signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary, the NEC said it unanimously reconfirmed and ratified all resolutions adopted at the Emergency 104th NEC meeting of December 7, 2025. The committee stressed that all actions taken pursuant to those resolutions remain valid, lawful, and binding.

The NEC also restated the party’s commitment to the rule of law and judicial independence, describing both as pillars of democratic governance. In this regard, it welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which affirmed the legality of the party’s leadership structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the PDP.

According to the NEC, the March 2026 National Convention will produce members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party. To ensure a smooth process, the committee approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the convention and subsequent congresses.

The NEC further mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence comprehensive logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations aimed at delivering a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.

Urging unity and discipline, the NEC cautioned party members at all levels against actions capable of undermining cohesion, calling on them to place the collective interest of the PDP above personal ambitions.

Reaffirming its resolve to rebuild a strong, disciplined, and electorally competitive party, the NEC expressed confidence that the resolutions reached at the 105th meeting would deepen internal democracy, restore stability, and reposition the PDP for future electoral contests.

Party stakeholders, supporters, and members at home and in the diaspora were also urged to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of the party.
