…Gunmen ambush Jude Ezenwafor in Abuja
…Victim scheduled for surgery to remove bullets
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State election, Jude Ezenwafor, has narrowly escaped an assassination attempt after he was shot by unidentified gunmen in Abuja on Friday night.
Ezenwafor, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the nation’s capital, revealed that the assailants attacked him around Wuse 2 while he was returning from an appointment. Still in critical condition and awaiting surgery, he spoke to journalists early Saturday morning from his hospital bed.
“I’m currently in the hospital. The doctors are making efforts to operate me so that they can pull out bullets from my body,” he said, his voice weak from pain.
The attack left him and two of his companions with gunshot wounds. Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed that preparations were underway for an urgent surgery to remove bullets lodged in his body.
Although the motive for the attack remains unclear, security operatives have been deployed to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of other candidates ahead of the election.
This incident has heightened fears over the security situation surrounding the Anambra governorship polls and sparked fresh calls for increased protection for political figures across the country.
