– CP-PDP applauds Supreme Court verdict affirming party autonomy
– Calls for expulsion of FCT Minister over alleged misconduct
– Condemns APC for ‘unconstitutional’ suspension of elected officials
The Conference of Professionals within the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has thrown its weight behind Sunday Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP. The endorsement followed a thorough review of party issues and a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the autonomy of political parties in their internal affairs.
In a statement signed by Protem National Coordinator Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, the CP-PDP hailed the judgment as a victory for democracy, reinforcing the right of political parties to manage their structures, membership, and candidate nominations without judicial interference.
Supporting the decision of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), the group recognized Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary, emphasizing his emergence through the party’s constitutional processes. The CP-PDP further urged Ude-Okoye to strengthen party discipline, promote unity, and solidify the PDP’s structure nationwide.
Additionally, the group demanded the immediate expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the PDP, accusing the official of actions detrimental to the party’s stability.
Expressing concern over what it described as the “manipulative and unconstitutional” actions of the APC-led National Assembly, the CP-PDP condemned the suspension of a democratically elected governor and state legislature by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling it a breach of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The group labeled this act a betrayal of public trust and demanded the immediate resignation of the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The CP-PDP urged Nigerians to rise against the perceived constitutional violations and defend the nation’s democracy.
