The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency in Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge stronger from its current crisis if members become “a little more selfless and less selfish.”

Speaking to journalists who visited him on Wednesday to celebrate his birthday, Chinda acknowledged the party’s internal struggles but dismissed concerns about its decline as Nigeria’s main opposition party.

“The PDP has always experienced internal disagreements, but we have come out stronger each time. This situation will not be different. Once party congresses and the national convention are concluded, a clearer picture will emerge,” he stated.

The lawmaker emphasized the need for unity within the party, urging members to prioritize national interest over personal ambitions. “The APC will be happy to see us in disarray, just as we would be if they were in crisis. However, what we need to do now is to go back to the drawing board, put the country first, and ensure that we reorganize ourselves. I still believe we can make it,” he added.

Reacting to the Supreme Court’s recent decision reinstating Senator Samuel Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary, Chinda criticized those misinterpreting the judgment.

“The Supreme Court was clear in its ruling. It set aside both the Enugu State High Court judgment and the Court of Appeal’s decision in favor of Mr. Ude Okoye. The court ruled that the plaintiff had no standing to bring the case in the first place and that Anyanwu was never legally removed from office,” he explained.

He urged party members to seek clarification from the PDP’s legal adviser rather than relying on misleading interpretations from party officials.

“It is embarrassing that a court judgment is being misrepresented, even at high levels within our party. A judgment may not always favor us, but once given especially by the Supreme Court it must be respected so we can move forward,” Chinda concluded.

With the PDP facing internal turmoil ahead of upcoming political contests, the Minority Leader’s remarks reinforce calls for unity and strategic realignment within the party.
