- NWC affirms suspension violates PDP Constitution
- Pro-party group labels action a ‘big joke’
- Abia PDP Chairman expelled over alleged impersonation
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has overturned the suspension of Adolphus Wabara as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), deeming it unconstitutional and without merit.
The Abia State Working Committee (SWC) had earlier announced Wabara’s suspension, a move that quickly drew criticism. A pro-party group, Frontiers for Change and Progress, dismissed the suspension as laughable and retaliated by expelling Abia PDP Chairman, Abraham Amah, over alleged impersonation.
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement, declared the suspension invalid, stating that it violated the party’s constitution (as amended in 2017) and lacked procedural backing. He described the action as reckless, emphasizing that no state body has the authority to discipline a National Executive Committee (NEC) member without NWC approval, as stipulated in Section 57(7) of the party’s constitution.
