Babatunji Wusu –

Rumors circulating about the arrest of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), have been firmly denied by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem. According to Obienyem, the claims that Obi was detained by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home in Anambra are entirely false.

Obienyem clarified that Obi was not in Nigeria at the time the alleged arrest supposedly occurred. “As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda for important engagements,” Obienyem stated. He further confirmed that Obi has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in party and national matters.

The media aide also addressed claims about Obi’s wife, Margaret, asserting that she was also not arrested. He denounced the arrest stories as baseless and urged the public to disregard such rumors.

“There was no DSS operation at Mr. Obi’s residence, and no arrest was made,” Obienyem emphasized. He reassured that Obi remains dedicated to his national commitments and his team is focused on providing accurate updates about his activities.
