Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, claims to be a Nigerian and is seeking to become the leader of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The agitation for the independent state of Biafra, which is supported by some groups in the South East, is not the reason Obi is running, he claimed.
In an interview with Brekete Family Show in Abuja on Monday, the former governor of Anambra state made this known.
When asked about the agitation in Biafra, Obi responded, “Biafra war ceased to exist about 52 years ago and it remains so. I come from Nigeria. As a Nigerian, I’m running.
Additionally, he stated that in Nigeria, movements for self-determination arise as a result of injustices experienced by citizens, but he affirmed that if elected president of the country, he would engage in dialogue with resentful groups.
“I have stated that those who are agitating, whether they are in the South-West, South-East, or North. Call it what you will—injustice, unfairness, marginalization, poverty—there is agitation everywhere. Unrest among people is inevitable.
I promised to talk to and consult with everyone (agitators). I want to create a brand-new Nigeria that the people can be proud of. That is why I vowed to address the issues in the North and South-West. I want Nigerians to travel around with pride in their nationality, said Obi.
