Babatunji Wusu –

Peter Obi, former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of Anambra South, sharing details of their last conversation.

Obi described the news of Ubah’s death as a “rude shock” and praised the late senator’s contributions to society. In his condolence message on Saturday, Obi recalled their final meeting on July 12, when they were together at the burial of Chief Pius Onwuzo in Nnewi, Anambra State.

During that visit, Obi noted that Ubah had personally welcomed him and invited him for lunch. Although Obi had to decline due to prior commitments, he highlighted that Ubah had expressed admiration for his dedication to Nigeria’s progress and reaffirmed his commitment to working together despite their political differences.

Obi said, “I was deeply shocked to hear of the death of my dear younger brother, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. We had been together on July 12 at the burial of Chief Pius Onwuzo, and Senator Ubah had welcomed me warmly. He invited me for lunch, which I had to postpone due to other engagements.”

He continued, “During our conversation about the state of the nation, he acknowledged my commitment to human progress and aligned with it. He assured me that, despite our party differences, we would collaborate as a family in serving our people.”

Obi also praised Ubah’s humanitarian efforts through his Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, which supported education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. He encouraged Ubah to continue his impactful work.

In his closing remarks, Obi prayed for Ubah’s soul, asking God to forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest. He extended his condolences to Ubah’s family, the Anambra South Senatorial District, Anambra State, and Nigeria, and offered prayers for strength to bear the loss. “May God protect and bless his family always,” Obi concluded.
