Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has demanded immediate and decisive action from security authorities following the confirmed abduction of more than 150 worshippers from churches in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Obi made the call in a statement published on his verified social media platforms on Wednesday, expressing deep concern over what he described as conflicting information and weak institutional response to the incident.

Questioning earlier denials by security agencies, the former Anambra State governor faulted the credibility and coordination of official communication. He asked how authorities arrived at initial claims that no such abduction occurred, now that the mass kidnapping has been confirmed.

Reacting to the development, Obi stressed that leadership must extend beyond occupying political office, insisting that moments of national distress require visibility, clarity, and responsibility from those in authority.

According to him, a serious nation would respond to such a large-scale abduction with swift national action, transparent communication, and firm leadership that reassures citizens that their lives are valued.

Obi further underscored the urgency of rescuing the victims, urging government and security agencies to prioritise their safe and unconditional release while confronting the broader insecurity crisis plaguing the country.

He warned that continued inaction and poor response mechanisms only deepen public distrust and embolden criminal elements, declaring that Nigeria must do better to protect its citizens.
