Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to devote themselves to building robust, law-abiding political parties that transcend individual ambition and outlive governments.
Speaking at the public unveiling of two political books in Abuja—The Bubbles of Nigeria’s Democracy: The Musings of a Nigerian Journalist and Wadata Wonders: Memoirs of a Partisan Journalist—authored by veteran journalist Ike Abonyi, Obi emphasized the urgent need for institutionalized party structures in Nigeria’s democracy.
“We are working hard to build that new Nigeria where we are going to have political parties that will outlive us, that are organized and bigger than the government,” Obi declared.
He also urged journalists with deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape to write more extensively to help citizens grasp the complexities of the nation’s democratic journey.
Obi praised Abonyi for documenting Nigeria’s political evolution through personal experience and journalistic insight, noting that such contributions enrich the country’s political consciousness.
The event attracted prominent political stakeholders and members of the media community, who lauded the books as timely interventions in Nigeria’s democratic discourse.
