The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended three individuals on Wednesday for allegedly stealing iPhones from victims of a road accident in Ikeja. The suspects were caught attempting to flee with the stolen phones shortly after the crash, the RRS confirmed in a statement released Thursday.
According to the RRS, the incident occurred on Governor’s Road, Alausa, Ikeja, when the driver of a red Toyota Camry lost control of the vehicle and collided with a road divider. The three suspects—Isaiah Adegbenro (38), Edet Johnson (30), and Efe Sowemimo (28)—took advantage of the accident, allegedly searching the victims’ vehicle and pockets rather than offering assistance to the injured.
The suspects stole two iPhones from the victims: an iPhone 15 valued at ₦1,300,000 and an iPhone 12 worth ₦620,000. Upon being alerted to the theft, RRS officers pursued and arrested the suspects, recovering the stolen items.
The statement further explained that the officers assisted the injured victims, transporting them to the hospital and clearing the accident site. The suspects, who have reportedly confessed to the crime, are set to be charged in court as directed by the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, CSP Shola Jejeloye.
