The FCT Police Command has uncovered an alleged child trafficking ring in Kuje, Abuja, following the arrest of two ex-convicts allegedly attempting to flee with a four-year-old girl.
The suspects, identified as Rose Daniel and Blessing John, were arrested on August 27 after a concerned member of the public alerted the police to the incident.
Following the alert, police operatives moved to the scene, where they reportedly apprehended the suspects and rescued the child, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects had previously been arrested in December 2025 and arraigned in court over a similar offence.
According to Adeh, the suspects were convicted and spent about five months in prison before being released on bail.
Further investigations have now allegedly linked the suspects to the abduction and trafficking of four children since their release from custody.
The latest investigation also uncovered an alleged connection between the suspects and a regular accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified as Madam Ijeoma.
Police investigators allege that Madam Ijeoma purchased two of the children for N1.5 million each.
The FCT Police Command said the rescued four-year-old girl has since been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
The command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and whereabouts of their children and wards.
The police also appealed to members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to law enforcement authorities.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, disrupting criminal networks and ensuring that those found culpable face the full weight of the law.
