The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Edet Udoulo, who was killed during an ambush by hoodlums in the Ohafia area on Wednesday. The ambush targeted a police patrol team at approximately 07:30hrs.

In response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police in Abia, CP Danladi Isa, personally led a rescue operation to the scene. The operation aimed to apprehend the assailants who ambushed and attacked the officers on duty.

  • The Ambush: The hoodlums attacked the police patrol team, but despite initial shock, the officers were able to repel the attack, forcing the attackers to flee.
  • Casualties and Rescues: ASP Edet Udoulo tragically lost his life in the attack. Another officer, Corporal Chukwu Odoemelam, sustained bullet injuries but was swiftly taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition. ASP Etim Obungha, another officer involved, was successfully rescued without harm.
  • Recovery and Investigation: Some exhibits were recovered from the crime scene, and an investigation is ongoing to track down the attackers.
  • Ongoing Security Measures: In collaboration with the army from the 14 Brigade, tactical teams from the Ohafia Area Command are conducting patrols in the area to maintain security.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has vowed to ensure that the perpetrators of the ambush are apprehended and brought to justice. He also urged the public to report any suspicious individuals, especially those with bullet wounds or unusual vehicles, to the nearest police station.
