On Sunday, the Maru Local Government Area’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Kazeem Raheem, was assassinated, according to the Zamfara Police command.
Rabi’u Umar, a Police Inspector working for the division, was also killed.
In a statement he released on Sunday in Gusau, SP Muhammad Shehu, the state’s police public relations officer (PPRO), acknowledged the killings.
“On March 5, 2023, at around 2:00 a.m., a group of bandits stormed the Maru Divisional Police Headquarters in the Maru LGA with the intention of destabilizing the town’s security system so that they could easily attack and kidnap residents.
The DPO and his squad bravely put up a solid defense to stave off the assault, nevertheless.
The PPRO stated in the statement, “Sad, the DPO and the above listed inspector sacrificed their lives while defending the people.
Mr. Kolo Yusuf, the Commissioner of Police for Zamfara Command, assured the locals of the command’s ongoing dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
According to the statement, the police chief sent reinforcements after the evading criminals in an effort to catch and indict them.
Shehu reported that another police tactical squad was taken to the scene by the command’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Iliyasu Kwarbai, for an on-the-spot assessment and confidence-building patrol.
