The Police Headquarters in Abuja has detained four officers accused of extorting N10 million from young residents in Bayelsa State.

 

Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi identified the officers as Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Ubong and Inspectors Nse Okon, Adiewere Collins, and Kuromare Marine.

 

Thanks to the intervention of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Adebola Hamzat, leading Zone 16, the allegedly extorted funds have been recovered. The detained officers will undergo an internal disciplinary hearing.

 

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun condemned the alleged corruption, stating that a comprehensive investigation is underway. He emphasized the Force’s commitment to addressing misconduct, particularly in Zone 16.

 

IGP Egbetokun reassured the public that all accusations against officers will be thoroughly investigated. He pledged strict disciplinary action against any officer found guilty, regardless of rank, to uphold the Force’s integrity and deter future misconduct.
