Twenty suspected political thugs, known as “Sara-Suka,” who have been terrorizing different neighborhoods of the Bauchi metropolis have been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command.
The announcement was made by the Command PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili, as he provided an update on the ongoing operations and tight security in the state as well as the tranquility of the impending Eid-el-Fitir Sallah celebration throughout Bauchi State.
He reaffirmed that the Command has consistently made an effort to track down these criminals and said, “We are assuring the general public that our duty towards maintaining law and order, providing adequate security of lives and property, preventing and detecting crimes, and enforcing the laws to preserve civil order is in top gear.”
According to him, a squad from Operation Restore Peace led by the Commander busted a criminal hideout and detained suspected thugs (Sara-Suka) on April 10, 2023, at around 2300 hours, while on visibility policing patrol along Shagari, Unguwan Mahaukata, and Karofin Madaki in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspects are Mujaheed Muhammad, 22, alias Driver of Nasarawa Jahun, Adamu Shuaibu, 18, Mustapha Bala, 18, and Mustapha Bala of Karofin Madaki.
Other accomplices fled to an unidentified location during the arrests of the aforementioned criminals, despite increased attempts to ensure their capture and prosecution.
Then, on November 4, 2023, at around 00:30, a team from Operation Restore Peace (ORP) captured another gang while on patrol in the neighborhoods of Mallan Goje, Nasarawa, and Karofi in the Bauchi metropolitan region that were home to certain underworld men.
The individuals detained are: Adamu Sirajo, 25, also known as Dan Baba; Sadiq Isah, 20; Nasiru Abdullahi, 19; Amir Abdullahi, 20; Ukasha Ladan, 21; Abdulkarim Mohammad, 22; Ibrahim Musa, 17, also known as Na Ma’aiki; and Abbas Usman, 18 years old.
Safiyanu Abdullahi, 20, and Buhari Ahmad, 19, were all living in Kangarke, Makwalla, and Karofin Madaki.
The PPRO reports that the suspects’ exhibits included three knives, four machetes, two pieces of sharp iron, and one small antler.
All of the suspects admitted under questioning that they participated in thuggery (Sara-Suka) by frightening defenseless residents of the Bauchi city and beyond.
As a result, the Command received a complaint from one Sadiq Bala, age 21, a victim of Sara-Suka. He was later invited to an identification parade, where he vividly named three of the thugs who amputated his right hand: Ibrahim Musa, age 18, Buhari Ahmad, age 18, and Abba Usman, age 18.
The accused immediately admitted what had been said about them and expressed regret for their acts.
In a related event, the Command detained Ishaka Aliyu, a 20-year-old gang leader from Gwangwan Ward, Bauchi, after acting on reliable intelligence.
Investigations showed that the defendant organized his Sara-Suka gang to attack 20-year-old Bello Umar of the Tuji neighborhood of Bauchi. He stabbed him in the abdomen with a sharp knife, causing significant internal injuries.
The victim was taken urgently for medical care to the ATBU Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
Later, some alleged Ishaka Aliyu conspirators were also detained, including Lukman Hussaini, 18, of Gwabba, who went by the name “Lukuku,” Ashiru Suleiman, 25, of Emir’s Drive, Yusuf Abdullahi, 20, of Zango, who went by the name “Kiss,” Abdulrazak Hassan, 19, of Zango, and Musa Isa, 18, of Zango.
The PPRO emphasized that more is being done to continue the operations and capture the collaborators, and that any suspects detained will face legal charges.
The Command reaffirmed unambiguously that there is no safe haven for criminals and that it would continue to find them, apprehend them, and bring them to justice in accordance with the full letter of the law.
