Two alleged infamous kidnappers were detained by the Niger State Police Command on Friday in the Gurara local government area of the State.
According to a statement released by the Command on Saturday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP W. A. Abiodun, earlier on Friday, January 27, 2023, at around 1030 hrs., the DPO of Lambata Division mobilized a Police Tactical Team with neighborhood watch members to the area and arrested the two suspects, namely Isyaku Anaruwa Abdullahi, 18, of Kwakuti village vi.
The two admitted, after questioning, to being members of abduction gangs terrorizing the Gwagwalada FCT Abuja, Lambata, and Kafin-Koro regions, respectively.
“Three cellphones were found on the culprits, and a total of N2,000,000.00 was negotiated as ransom to free two victims who had been kidnapped earlier in Gwagwalada.
“They admitted even more, saying that kidnap victims were held in the Gwalo forest. Between the Lambata and Kafin-Koro areas, the DPO further mobilized and searched the Gwalo forest.
“During this time, the tactical teams engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight in the forest, while the thugs fled the hideout and left the seven victims—six men and one woman—at the scene.
The PPRO reported that the victims were found unharmed, transferred to FMC for treatment, and then reunited with their relatives.
He continued by saying that the Nigerlites and members of the public have been reassured by the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, that the Command will continue to uphold its legal obligations to ensure a secure environment with the help of the public and the provision of adequate information to the Police.
