In connection with the kidnapping and murder of a traditional chief in Oraigbomina, Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun, the Osun Police Command reported on Sunday that it had detained a commercial biker and three other people.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, the suspects were detained after the late traditional chief’s son reported a missing person to the police.
“One Oladepo Olasunkanmi of Kereja Area, Oraigbomina, under the Oke Ila Police Division, stated that his father, Chief Oladepo Asaolu, was missing on Saturday at around 12:30 p.m.
She said, “He claimed his father left his Kereja home at around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday with an unidentified commercial biker and he was still at large after four days.”
Police information, according to Opalola, and subsequent investigation resulted in the capture of the commercial biker who had been transporting the missing chief on the day he was last seen.
She claimed that the detained biker brought authorities to the woodland where the victim’s body was dumped and confessed to killing the chief.
“A team of police officers and several vigilantes were led by the divisional police officer of Oke Ila in their hunt for the victim’s remains.
The victim’s already-decomposing body was discovered in the forest, where the suspect took the police after directing them there.
She added that the detention of the commercial biker “also resulted in the detention of three other individuals who confessed to having been engaged in the kidnapping and killing of the victim.”
However, the police spokeswoman noted that plans were being made to transfer the body to the closest morgue.
She said that the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo had received the suspects and the case in their entirety for additional investigation.
