In Rivers State, Nigerian Police Force agents busted two baby factories and rescued 10 victims, including young girls who were pregnant.

In a statement released in Port Harcourt, the state police command’s public relations officer, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, said that the operators of the factories, which are child trafficking gangs, sell off newborns.

Iringe-Koko noted that, in response to intelligence, members of the police’s C4i unit raided two factories in the communities of Igwuruta and Omagwa, both located in the state’s Ikwerre Local Government Area.

She mentioned the arrests of four of the suspected owners of the homes and the ongoing efforts to apprehend the evading syndicates for prosecution.

“On Saturday, January 7, 2023, at around 16:45 hours, acting on reliable information made available to the Rivers State Police Command, C4I Intelligence Unit Operatives raided two houses in the communities of Igwuruta and Omagwa, where victims of child trafficking were being kept,” Iringe-Koko said.

Favour Bright, “F,” 30, of Umudioga Community, Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, and Peace Alikoi, “F,” 40, of Igwuruta Community, Ikwere Local Government Area, who is the leader of the trafficking syndicate, as well as Noble Uzuchi, “M,” 17, and Chigozie Ogbonna, “M,” 29, were among the suspects who were detained by police officers during the operation.

The majority of the ten (10) victims who were saved during the operation were pregnant. Investigation into the case thus far has revealed that the syndicate leader would keep the child while giving it to the victim in exchange for a payment of 500,000 Naira (N500, 000:00).

“All of the victims admitted that they had been persuaded to engage in the illegal sale of children in order to overcome some financial obstacles. The gang boss’s Honda Pilot Jeep with Lagos registration number FST 607 AX in white was found.

She continued by saying that the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, had taken over the case and that more was being done to find and apprehend the people who had purchased the already-sold-out children.
