The Ogun State Police Command says it has shot and killed a member of a five-man gang of armed robbers who invaded the Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, in the early hours of Friday, November 9, 2018.

The gang was said to have invaded a compound housing twelve flats with dangerous weapons and started dispossessing the occupants of their valuables.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in the course of the robbers’ operation, a distress call was made to the police by a neighbour.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, promptly directed the Officer in charge of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Uba Adams, to quickly move into the scene and rescue the situation.

Oyeyemi said the operatives of FSARS swiftly moved to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle.

At the end of the gun duel, one of the gang members was shot dead while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

Oyeyemi said the items recovered from the gang were handsets, four laptops, wallets and other valuables belonging to the residents of the compound.

The victims of the robbery were full of praises for the operatives of the FSARS for their quick response to their distress call.

Meanwhile, Iliyasu has ordered for a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang with a view to bringing them to justice within the shortest time possible.
