The Nigeria Police Force, through the Edo State Police Command, has launched a comprehensive investigation into an alleged bullying incident involving students of Igbinedion Secondary School in Edo State.
The development follows the circulation of a viral video showing two students allegedly assaulting a fellow student within the school premises.
Days after the video surfaced online, the management of the school announced that the two students involved in the incident had been expelled.
Despite the disciplinary action taken by the school, the police say they have begun a detailed inquiry into the matter.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, assured the public that those responsible for the act would be brought to justice.
“The Command wishes to assure the general public that the perpetrators involved in the bullying incident will be arrested and made to face the law accordingly, in line with their respective ages and in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement said.
The police also strongly condemned acts of bullying, violence, and intimidation among students, warning that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Edo State Police Command totally condemns acts of bullying, violence, or intimidation among students, and anyone found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
