Babatunji Wusu –
Anambra state police claim to have launched a massive manhunt for two unidentified armed gunmen who allegedly traveled from another state to kill two police officers.
The cops were shot and killed late on Thursday at the Uga Roundabout in Aguata by thugs who attacked them as they advanced ahead of a convoy to reduce traffic in the area.
The shooters reportedly also targeted a convoy that was stuck in traffic and was thought to be carrying Anambra politician Chris Uba and prominent member of the Labour Party, Mr. Val Ozigbo.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra police command, verified the occurrence in a statement on Friday.
According to Ikenga’s statement, “Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for armed insurgents who killed two police personnel on December 28, 2023, at about 6:30 pm. The insurgents infiltrated from a neighboring state.”
The group, who appeared to be on a kidnapping expedition and were dressed in military fatigue, was startled to discover two armed police officers moving toward them.
“To relieve traffic congestion, they started shooting at the officers who had advanced ahead of the convoy they were leading. Other officers retaliated, being cautious not to hit many passing cars, which forced the criminals to escape.
