Operatives of the 67 Police Mobile Force (PMF) on Monday evening foiled an attempted attack by suspected armed bandits on Ugbobi community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, forcing the assailants to flee.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. when the attackers stormed the community, prompting a swift and decisive response from PMF personnel deployed to the area.
The mobile policemen reportedly engaged the bandits with superior firepower and deployed teargas canisters to halt their advance. The coordinated action disrupted the assault and compelled the suspects to retreat into nearby bushes.
In the aftermath, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Apa mobilised patrol teams and additional tactical units to reinforce security in the community. The teams also combed surrounding bushes in a bid to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Security sources said surveillance and patrols have been intensified to prevent further attacks, while residents have been advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
