The police on Monday released Nollywood actress Doris Ogala after she spent two days in custody, following her arrest over allegations made against a Lagos-based pastor.
Ogala was arrested on Saturday evening after she publicly accused Pastor Chris Okafor on social media of deceiving her with a promise of marriage, among other claims. Her detention immediately triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the arrest and demanding her release.
Several social media influencers and activists, including VeryDarkMan, amplified calls for her freedom, while human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore also intervened in the matter.
Confirming her release, Ogala took to her Instagram page on Monday afternoon to express gratitude to those who stood by her. In a brief post, she thanked Sowore and VeryDarkMan for their support, writing: “Thank you Sowore. Thanks so much to my ratel king.”
The development has reignited public debate around freedom of expression, social media activism, and the use of law enforcement in civil disputes.
