The Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against violent crime, rescuing a kidnapped octogenarian, neutralizing six suspects, and arresting twelve others in separate operations across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Jigawa State.

In Abuja, operatives of the FCT Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a notorious armed robbery and carjacking gang in the Maitama area.

The suspects opened fire on the police, resulting in a shootout during which one of the gang’s most wanted leaders, Abdulmininu Bello, also known as Babanle, was killed. Seven other suspects were arrested at the scene, including ex-convicts Ibrahim Muhammad (22) and Isiaka Adamu.

Exhibits recovered from the scene include four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, eleven rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red boxer motorcycle.

Meanwhile, in Jigawa State, the police successfully rescued 80-year-old Hajiya Hajara, who had been abducted from her residence in Sarbi Village, Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State.

The kidnappers, a group of twelve armed bandits, were intercepted while attempting to flee through Jigawa. A joint security team launched a coordinated raid on the suspects’ hideout between Danzomo and Medi villages.

A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the death of five suspects and the arrest of five others, including the alleged gang leader, Yahaya (35). The victim was rescued unhurt and has since been medically evaluated and discharged.

Items recovered during the operation include two AK-47 rifles, a locally fabricated LAR rifle, fourteen rounds of live ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the gallant officers for their bravery and efficiency. He urged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and gatherings.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to public safety and national security,” the IGP stated.
