The Kaduna State Police Command has verified the gruesome murder of Grace Chalya Silas, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), by unidentified persons in the state.
According to the Command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, the state Police Commissioner, Musa Yusuf Garba, has ordered a manhunt for the Corps member’s killers.
Grace was reportedly stabbed to death on Wednesday while jogging in Barnawa, Kaduna South Local Government Area of the state.
Following the tragedy, the deceased’s friends and classmates at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) took to Facebook to express their condolences.
Hassan told The Punch that the Commissioner of Police, following an emergency meeting of the command’s top hierarchy, had directed the Barnawa Divisional Police Officer and operatives to track out the Corps member’s killers.
“It’s a very tragic incident,” he remarked. She was jogging (exercising) in the early morning when some miscreants (phone snatchers) on motorcycles pounced on her.
“Grace Chalya Silas is the victim’s name. She was a member of the Corps stationed in Kaduna South.
“When the case was reported to police, operatives responded quickly and moved to the crime scene, where they discovered the victim in a pool of her own blood.” She was brought to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“Since the incident was reported to the police, Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, convened an emergency meeting with the top hierarchy of command.” We have already contacted NYSC in the state.
“The CP has directed the Barnawa DPO and Area Commander, to immediately hunt for killers of the Corps member and fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
