Policeman kidnapped on major Abuja highway

A Chief Superintendent of Police, Modestus Ojiebe, was abducted along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway near Dei-Dei Police Barracks in Abuja while attempting to fix his broken-down vehicle.

According to reports, an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz with four armed men stopped behind him during the incident. The attackers robbed Ojiebe and his wife of their mobile phones and ATM cards. Upon discovering his police identity, they forced him into their vehicle and sped off, leaving his wife and their car behind.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dawaki Division quickly dispatched a patrol team and alerted all police checkpoints and key entry and exit points into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This swift response led to Ojiebe’s rescue later that night in Garaku, Nasarawa State, where the kidnappers abandoned him and fled into the bush.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police emergency line at 08032003913.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Abuja, where sporadic cases of kidnapping have been reported. Authorities continue their efforts to track down the suspects and strengthen security across the region.
