The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued an apology to the broadcast industry, residents of Enugu State, and the public after operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disrupted a live program on Urban Radio 94.5 FM.

In a statement released on Monday from Abuja, NBC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Susan Obi, expressed the commission’s concern over the incident, which took place on October 14. EFCC operatives reportedly stormed the radio station during a live broadcast, aiming to arrest the presenter, Favour Ekoh.

Obi described the EFCC’s actions as a breach of broadcasting ethics, especially since it occurred during a live program. She also emphasized that the way the arrest was handled was inappropriate and regrettable, considering the important role the media plays in society.

NBC criticized the EFCC’s approach, noting that it could have led to public unrest, panic, and chaos. While NBC acknowledges the EFCC’s efforts to combat financial crimes, it stressed that this particular action was ill-judged.

The commission apologized to the listeners, the people of Enugu, and the broadcasting community for the disturbance. Obi urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding as the legal process unfolds. She also called on media professionals to maintain ethical standards in their work.
