Pope Francis, the Catholic Church in Nigeria and around the world, as well as all Christians, extend their condolences to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s family on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s government and people.

In a statement released by Chief Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, paid respect to Benedict XVI, who was widely admired for his selfless leadership, illustrious theological knowledge, and commitment to advancing interfaith understanding and peace.

“President Buhari believes that the late Pontiff will be remembered as a true servant of God who used the Almighty’s benevolent gifts upon his life to serve the Church and humanity in humility, reverence, and piety, living in word and deed the virtues of a true Christian disciple,” according to the statement.

The President prayed that the Pope Emeritus be enveloped in the loving arms of the Lord, whom he faithfully served throughout his mission.
