Controversial Nigerian singer Habeed Okikiola, popularly called Portable, was on Monday arraigned before the Federal High Court over a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
The Ogun State Police said the charges stem from an incident that occurred on New Year’s Day at the singer’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo. Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed that Portable allegedly assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and other individuals at the venue.
The arraignment followed a viral video that surfaced on Sunday showing the singer in police custody, reportedly after Ashabi lodged a complaint against him. Prosecutors listed Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah as other victims in the case.
Police further accused Portable of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, said to belong to Ileyemi Damilola and allegedly purchased from Wally Dex Auto.
During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple reportedly testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was absent from court. The prosecution also told the court that the singer obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
The presiding judge declined Portable’s bail application, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge ruled that the officer must appear before any consideration of bail.
Portable was consequently remanded in custody, with the court fixing January 19, 2026, for a fresh bail hearing.
