In a thrilling Premier League match on Saturday, Leicester City twice overcame goals to win after being down 1-0. The result was a crucial 4-2 victory for Leicester City over Aston Villa.
When Ollie Watkins handed Villa an early advantage from close range, it appeared like it would be another gloomy day for out-of-sorts Leicester.
James Maddison quickly restored parity, but soon after, Leicester’s new acquisition Harry Souttar scored into his own goal while attempting to save a low cross from Watkins.
However, Leicester startled its opponents when Tete scored on his debut in first-half stoppage time after Villa recklessly turned the ball over. Tete’s goal came after Kelechi Iheanacho headed past Emiliano Martinez in the 41st minute.
The second half was calmer in comparison, but Villa thought it had tied the score through Philippe Coutinho before his attempt was disallowed for offside.
Dennis Praet’s latching onto a Harvey Barnes through pass in the 79th minute gave Leicester its first league victory since November.
With the win, Leicester now has 21 points, three more than the bottom three teams, while Villa is still in 11th place with 28 points.
Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester, said, “We really deserved to win the game, were dangerous going forward, and it was an excellent victory.
Our four goals were excellent; we used a lot of creativity and easily could have scored five or six.
Leicester’s early-season issues seemed to be resolved when it defeated West Ham United soon before the World Cup. However, it has struggled since the Premier League season began, earning just one point out of a possible 15.
Rodgers was under increasing pressure, but his team responded admirably on Saturday, despite the fact that their two debutants had a difficult day.
Emiliano Buendia’s dipping drive hit the underside of the crossbar in the ninth minute, and Watkins was quick to volley in the rebound to give Villa the lead.
The hosts, however, self-destructed three minutes later when Boubacar Kamara fumbled the ball and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall passed it to Maddison, who scored on his first start since that victory over West Ham — a match in which he hurt his knee.
Watkins’ low pass across the goal’s face gave Villa its lead back after Leicester’s Souttar—who had just been acquired from Stoke City on Tuesday—accidentally scored his own goal.
Harvey Barnes threw a risky ball into the box for Iheanacho to head home as Leicester responded.
In the last seconds of the first half, Kamara made a mistake once more when he was fouled within his own half and Iheanacho passed Tete in for a score around Martinez.
As Villa pushed for an equalizer, Philippe Coutinho had a goal disallowed for offside, but Leicester gave themselves a safety cushion when Praet was set up by Barnes to score.
