The Presidency has strongly condemned the proposed #IgboMustGo protest planned for Lagos and other Southwest states. O’tega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant on New and Digital Media to President Bola Tinubu, denounced those behind the protest, labeling them as threats to societal harmony.
Ogra criticized the instigators of the protest, describing them as “diseases” and “dangers” to society. He emphasized that Nigeria is a unified nation, regardless of ethnic or religious differences, as outlined in the constitution. He called on security agencies to take action against those promoting such divisive agendas.
“It is my firm belief that anyone who tries to stir ethnic or religious tensions under any pretext is a threat to society and should be held accountable under the law,” Ogra stated. “This behavior is reckless and dangerous in a country with over 350 ethnic groups and diverse religious beliefs. Nigeria is one unified nation governed by constitutional law. Our successes and challenges are shared by all Nigerians, regardless of their background.”
Ogra urged Nigerians to report instances of bigotry and incitement, stressing that President Tinubu will not tolerate any form of hatred. He appealed to citizens to unite against those who seek to create division.
“To all patriotic Nigerians, I urge you to report any acts of bigotry or inflammatory comments to the proper authorities,” Ogra said. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to leading all Nigerians and does not condone bigotry. Young Nigerians, do not let yourself be manipulated into participating in ethnic or religious conflicts. The instigators hide behind their malice and use deceitful tactics to manipulate you.”
He concluded with a call for young Nigerians of good conscience to denounce such behavior, regardless of political or religious affiliation.
