President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday had a closed-door meeting with the Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Present at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. – Gen Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
President Buhari and the Service Chiefs hold routine security meetings weekly but today’s meeting is special and tagged ‘special consultation’.
However, the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), was absent.
It could be recall that Pressure had been mounted on President Buhari lately to sack the Service Chiefs amid escalating security challenges in the country.
But the President is yet to heed to the call, saying his regime would not take any hasty actions against the officers, who manned the country’s security operations since 2015.
