The promotion of 40 Deputy Commissioners to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police has been approved by the Police Service Commission. Due to a vacancy in the medical cadre, the Commission also approved the fast promotion of two Assistant Commissioners. Following an interactive session/interview with the Commission in Plenary presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi JSC, the new Commissioners of Police were elevated (rtd).
The promotion of CPs Rudouf ECHEBI and Abdul Yari Lafia to the position of Assistant Inspector General was also approved by the Commission. Prior to his ascension to the position of Commissioner of Police, CP Yari’s date of promotion was taken into account and corrected by the Commission, making him eligible for promotion.
The leadership of the Commission also paid a polite visit to the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, on Wednesday at Force Headquarters in Abuja. They also paid a visit to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.

The Commission further approved the promotion of three Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners of Police and one Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police.
The acting Chairman of the Commission called on the beneficiaries of the new ranks to rededicate themselves to the service of their fatherland . She noted that they should bring into their new offices their varied experiences to help mitigate the ravaging security problems in the country especially now that the nation is going into another round of national elections.
Justice Ogunbiyi said the Commission will continue to ensure that Police promotions are not delayed and that the exercise will be fair, just and based on seniority and availability of vacancies.
