According to the Daily Mail, Qatari investors want to make a sizable offer to buy Manchester United.
The Premier League club had been available for sale, and “a group of private, high-wealth individuals” from Qatar reportedly expressed interest.
After the club’s US owners, the Glazer family, announced in November that they were starting the process of selling the club, Jim Ratcliffe’s company, INEOS, entered the bidding process for the club last month.
According to a previous Bloomberg News article, Manchester United or Liverpool could be acquired by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the owner of Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.
Since winning the Europa League and League Cup in 2017, when Manchester United last won a championship, the Glazer family has been under fire.
Fans gathered in large numbers outside Old Trafford in April to demonstrate against the Glazers. “Get out of the club,” they sang.
The net debt owed by United, which by September had reached 515 million pounds ($620.42 million), will present a significant challenge to the club’s future owner.
