Religious leaders in the state are encouraged to obtain police protection before holding religious activities by the Ogun State Police command.

The warning follows a weekend attack on a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) when a pastor was killed and seven worshipers were abducted by unidentified gunmen in Abule-Ori, Obafemi-Owode Local Government of the State.

In a statement made available to reporters on Friday, the state’s police spokeswoman, Omolola Odutola, added that Abiodun Alamutu, the state commissioner, also cautioned religious leaders to stop hosting nighttime events for their followers.

According to her, “authorities of the religious body should approach the nearest Area Commands, Divisional Police Station for adequate security and coverage before religion activities are held at any center, podium, location, or area.”

The Police also instructed mosques and churches to think about how much safer it would be for attendees to hold their prayers in the early evenings and make it home safely before dusk.

Alamutu stated that strategies to prevent the trend had been put in place and urged religious organizations to assist with the continuing contingency plans of the police in Ogun.

Recall that the Ogun So-Safe Corps members who murdered one of the gunmen freed the seven RCCG members who had been abducted during the Abule Ori incident.
