Babatunji Wusu –
Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aligned with President Bola Tinubu are currently in a closed-door session at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting coincides with ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address concerns among Nigerians regarding the upcoming protest scheduled from August 1 to 15.
According to Daily Trust, the governors arrived at the Villa by bus and were promptly escorted to the President’s office. Among those observed were Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Bassey Otu (Cross River). The purpose of the meeting is linked to government initiatives aimed at preventing the planned nationwide protest.
Meanwhile, Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political group, has attributed the impending nationwide protest to policies implemented by the Bola Tinubu administration, criticizing them as anti-people. The group’s spokesperson, Justice Faloye, expressed support for the protest while urging against any form of violence. Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Faloye clarified that while Afenifere will not directly participate in the protest, it fully endorses the demonstrators. The group emphasized that the protest is a response to widespread hunger and harsh economic policies, arguing that the relief measures introduced by the Tinubu government have been inadequate.
