Tunji Wusu –
Sen. Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo State, has approved raising the state’s minimum salary for employees to N40,000 in order to mitigate the effects of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
The governor remarked that the removal of the fuel subsidy has had a negative impact on people’s lives when speaking to the state executive council on Saturday, July 25.
He also implemented further palliative measures, such as reviewing the income structure of employees, approving a 10% increase in the minimum wage, stating that all state employees are entitled to a free daily meal and free medical care, and providing more free buses for Imo employees.
“There shall be an immediate upward review of the salaries and wages of workers in the state,” stated Oguwike Nwachukwu, the governor’s top press secretary.
This resolution increases the minimum salary to N40,000 with optional consequential changes.
