Tunji Wusu –
According to Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the House of Representatives, members of the National Assembly are not as wealthy as Nigerians are led to believe.
The speaker pleaded with the media to help rectify the perception while speaking with parliamentary reporters on July 12.
He reportedly said: “You are aware that the parliament is the government’s unacknowledged arm. You cook a lot of the meals that are served to people.
Because we are partners in the Nigerian initiative, you were invited. This branch of the government is not as wealthy as is implied. You may have heard that each week, members take home N30 million.
You’ll also hear that Nigerian lawmakers make significantly more money than American lawmakers. You are the only one who can correct this mistake.
Even though we won’t want to mislead the media, we kindly request that you provide accurate information. For us, it will be better. No other country exists for us.
