Following the discovery of crude oil in Bauchi and Gombe states, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is prospecting for the commodity in additional places throughout the north.
As part of efforts to boost the country’s oil output and reserves, the NNPC claimed that it was currently taking concerted steps for further frontier exploration in the region.
The corporation stated this in a document obtained by TheCable on the NNPC’s frontier exploration services activities from 2020 to 2022.
The document listed some of the prospective states where the NNPC was expected to discover oil, including Niger, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe.
Beyond the north, the Anambra basin was mentioned as another location where the NNPC was looking for extra oil.
Prospecting is the first stage in the discovery of an oil and gas field, during which seismic surveys are conducted.
