Babatunji Wusu –
A recent social media report that claimed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, were secretly celebrating Atiku Abubakar’s efforts to expose President Bola Tinubu’s alleged fake certificate by describing it as fake has been refuted by the PDP chapter in Akwa Ibom State.
The report, the party continued, is an ill-intentioned attempt to involve the Governor and the State Chapter of the PDP in a legal proceeding.
The party’s state publicity secretary, comrade Borono Bassey, endorsed the position of the state chapter in a press release that was made available to Tribune in Uyo on Wednesday. The press release urges well-meaning Nigerians to disregard the statement and dismiss it as malicious and unfounded.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chapter described the report as “an obviously fake news item being circulated on social media alleging that our Party and His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Leader of the PDP, Pastor Umo Eno, was secretly celebrating Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s efforts in exposing President Tinubu’s allegedly fake certificate:
The party said, “We hereby state as follows: The case that is the focus of the false information is pending in court and is, as a result, subjudice. Because of this, neither the governor nor the state’s People’s Democratic Party are qualified to speak.
“The Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, as a law-abiding citizen who believes in the supremacy of the law, has tremendous respect for the PDP, on whose platform Pastor Umo Eno was elected governor, and for the Party’s presidential candidate, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He also has great respect for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Alhaji Bola Tinubu.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State can only wait for the court’s decision because he is not a party to the lawsuit mentioned in this ridiculous rumor. He will join in the customary courteous and submissive chorus of “As the court pleases!” Part of the statement was read.
“No such topic, as falsely reported by the faceless reporter, was ever brought up or discussed in the PDP Stakeholders’ meeting yesterday. We ask the author to submit audio or video documentation of such discussions.
“We want to stress once more that His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, does not partake in small conversation in his capacity as a pastor. Since he has built bridges across party lines since taking office, he respects established authorities and would never partake in such politicized snarky discussions.
Therefore, he asked the general public to disregard and discard all series of untrue claims and to hope for the best from the current state government, which is led by Pastor Umo Eno.
