The Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency in Plateau State has seen a rise in murders and kidnappings, which has been denounced by the House of Representatives.
As a result, the parliamentarians pleaded with the Nigerian police, military, and other security authorities to handle the regrettable events.
Rep. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi made a motion at Wednesday’s plenary session drawing attention to the growing insecurity in his constituency.
Gagdi conveyed his dismay about multiple recorded incidents of intentional intimidation, abductions, and physical attacks directed towards the citizens of his district.
The senator expressed his worry that a flood of people from other states had turned Kanam Forest into a safe haven for terrorists from Boko Haram and criminals.
The Chief of Defence Staff was requested by the House to create two military bases in Kanam, namely in the Gun-Gagdi and Garga sectors, as a reaction.
In addition, the House requested that more troops be sent to the affected areas of Gun-Gagdi, Garga, Pankshin, and Kanke by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
