The House of Representatives has given the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, a 48-hour ultimatum to produce Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council/Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PFIPC/PEAC), before its Ad hoc Committee by 12 noon on Wednesday. The directive was issued as the committee intensified its PFIPC investigation into the inclusion of the alleged phantom council in the 2026 Appropriation Act. Lawmakers said the PFIPC investigation is aimed at uncovering the facts and protecting the credibility of public institutions.
The Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, gave the order during a resumed investigative hearing in Abuja on Monday. He also called on the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and other relevant authorities to approve the release of 12 personnel identified in a security report submitted to the committee.
“It is the wish of this committee that the Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in view of the fact that individuals’ names have featured differently in this investigation, and agencies have been mentioned while documents have been said to have been mutilated, should kindly present Adeyemi before this committee on Wednesday by 12 noon,” he said.
According to Gagdi, Prince Adeyemi’s appearance is essential to resolving key issues before the committee presents its final findings and recommendations. He also assured that the PFIPC investigation would not interfere with ongoing security agency inquiries but would instead complement efforts to establish the truth.
The committee further directed the AGF to produce the two officials who carried out the assessment for the alleged phantom council, saying their testimony would ensure a fair hearing and provide valuable information for the PFIPC investigation.
Gagdi also revealed that the committee had obtained details of the bank account opened for the alleged council by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) following authorisation from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
He added that the committee is now in possession of 29 fake documents allegedly used by Prince Adeyemi, whom the AGF accused of hijacking a letter of authentication originally addressed to the Presidency.
