The French Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that fans of Olympique Lyonnais are not permitted to travel to the rescheduled Ligue 1 match at Olympique de Marseille because there is a possibility of a violent altercation between supporters.
As the players were on their way to the Stade Velodrome on October 29, the original game was canceled due to stone-pelting on Lyon’s team van, which injured coach Fabio Grosso, who has since been replaced. Wednesday is the new date of the rescheduled game.
“The individual or collective travel of any person claiming to be a supporter of the Olympique Lyonnais club or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the Rhone department and the municipality of Marseille on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from midnight to midnight,” the Order published in the Official Journal stated.
The ruling stated that because of their mutual hostility, there is a genuine and substantial risk of violence between the followers of the two teams.
It further noted that due of the violent behavior of some fans or others purporting to be supporters of this team, the club frequently causes disturbances to public order.
Before Nantes’ game against Nice on Saturday at the Beaujoire Stadium, a supporter was stabbed.
