Babatunji Wusu –
Anambra State’s capital, Awka, residents have complained about a two-day power outage caused by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC).
People, especially those involved in business, tabulated the losses they had suffered in the immediate aftermath of the occurrence.
Ejikeme Okafor, the owner of a computer cafe, said the elimination of fuel subsidies had negatively impacted his business, and the power outage had made matters worse.
“You’ll feel sorry for me if I tell you how much I spend on petrol every day since fuel subsidies were eliminated. EEDC has now arrived with theirs. He bemoaned, “I don’t know what these guys want us to do.
According to EEDC, the outage occurred on Wednesday night as a result of a loss of supply from its source of power at the TCN Station in Onitsha.
Engineers were patrolling the lines to determine the reason of the power outage, the power company announced through its Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, that power will be restored shortly.
“We wish to inform our valued customers in Awka, Anambra State, that the current power outage is caused by the loss of supply from its source of power at TCN Station, Onitsha, at approximately 6:53pm yesterday (Wednesday),” the representative added.
“As a result of this development, all feeders under the EEDC Awka district are without power supply.”
Engineers from TCN are already scouring the lines for the source of the power outage.
We therefore sincerely apologize to our valued clients in Awka and ask for their patience and understanding while we wait for the problem to be fixed and electricity to be restored.
