Arsenal have appointed Unai Emery as their new head coach following Arsene Wenger’s resignation.

Prior to the appointment, there have been speculation over the club’s choice of manager, as they scouted Europe for capable hands that will take the team to another level.

Emery emerged as a shock candidate to replace Wenger due reports that the Emirates Chiefs were tilting towards employing former Spanish midfielder, Mikel Arteta, who is now the No. 3 at Manchester City.

Reports in Goal have it that Arsene Wenger has told Emery to focus on solidifying the side’s defence following another dismal season in Europe and Premier League.

Emery has also come out to pay his tributes to the Frenchman, saying: ‘Thank you Arsene for your legacy,

‘For all the coaches in all the world he is a reference and I learned from all the things in football. ‘It’s a big challenge for me but I worked also with other big projects and with me, for me, I am proud to be here and to work after Arsene Wenger.’

‘I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game. Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run,’ he said. ‘I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history.”
