Mikel Arteta is understood to be re-considering his proposed move to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, according to reports.

The Spaniard is said to have undergone talks to return to the Emirates as the head coach following the resignation of Arsene Wenger who spent over 22 years at the club. Prior reports claimed that Arteta was the leading candidate for the top job edging out the likes of Carlo Ancelotti and Max Allegri for the position.

But reports in the Daily Star claim that the former midfielder is having second thoughts about accepting Arsenal’s offer after speaking with former Arsenal player, Patrick Viera was also tipped for the job, but then backed out due to the lack of control the new manager will have over transfers.

According to reports, the new structure at the club gives head of recruitment Sven Mislintat a lot of control over arrivals, and may supersede the new manager’s interest.

It is also believed that Mislintat has already began efforts to bring in new players to the club even before the arrival of a new manager signalling his extensive control over transfers at the North London club.

Arsenal are also believed to have initiated talks with former Paris Saint Germaine boss, Unai Emery, who is expected to fly into London this week to discuss terms of a potential move.
