Babatunji Wusu –
On Monday, a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko Jumbo, screened and certified Gagogo Israel Iboroma’s (SAN) appointment as Commissioner-designate.
The faction met at Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt to screen and confirm the Commissioner-nominee.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to swear in Iboroma as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice later today, succeeding Professor Zaeccheus Adangor.
Legislators loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara chose Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, representing Bonny Constituency, as the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Jumbo took the oath of office as the factional Speaker of the Assembly on Wednesday, after being elected by two MPs who support the state governor.
Jumbo stated a desire to collaborate with Governor Fubara, noting that he has directed the Clerk of the Assembly to notify the executive of the formation of new assembly leadership.
Oko-Jumbo proclaimed the actions of Martin Amaewhule’s side to be null and void.
Additionally, Governor Fubara issued Executive Order 001, which relocated the State House of Assembly to the Auditorium, Admin Block of the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The Governor noted that the decision was made since the current House of Assembly facility is unfit for service after being burned down on October 29th, 2023, during a political conflict in the state.
