– Governor, family, and security exit official residence
– Security presence at Government House remains thin
– Tinubu declares state of emergency, appoints Ibas as administrator
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt, leaving the premises alongside his family and security aides on Wednesday morning.
Despite his departure, security around the Government House remains sparse, with only a handful of operatives stationed at the premises. However, daily activities in Port Harcourt continue uninterrupted as residents go about their routines.
The move follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, citing the paralysis of the legislative arm as justification. In response, Tinubu appointed Retired Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to assume administrative control of the state.
The situation marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political crisis gripping Rivers, raising concerns over governance stability and the state’s future direction.
